about sydbird

Hi, I'm Sydney. I'm not great at talking about myself (although I'm pretty skilled at talking to myself) so I'll just give you the facts.

I really like birds, okay? That's like the main thing you need to know about me, if you take nothing else away from this. They're too precious for this world, each and every one of them. I wish I was a bird.

Other than that, I'm a 90s kid and I live in North Carolina with my husband Josh, my cockatiels Sunny and Ginger, and my kitty Kitty.

I spend my days working an office job and my nights and weekends taking art classes, learning to paint and draw. I wasn't very creative growing up, but I've been on a mission to become skilled in visual media since 2018. My progress has been slow but I've really enjoyed the journey and the friends I've made along the way.

I've spend most of my adult life playing tabletop RPGs with Josh. Our favorite is Call of Cthulhu, and lately we've been really excited to get into Traveller.

My newest hobby is nature photography, which I picked up in 2021 when I started birdwatching. I use a Nikon z6ii and a Tamron 150-600mm lens. I have a lot to learn but it's done wonders to encourage me to get outside.

This website has been years in the making. For a while now I've been searching for a creative outlet - a purpose for my practice. I'm still haven't found what that purpose is, but this website will bring me one step closer.

It is both a portfolio and a playground, a place for me to explore my whims, a hub for the various ideas and penchants that flood my mind every day.

This website is for myself. It's my truest way of making a mark on the world.
